About Remote Desktop Connection

Using Remote Desktop Connection, you can log on to a Windows Terminal Server and use all programs installed on this server. For example, instead of running Microsoft Pocket Word, you can run the desktop version of Microsoft Word.

Connecting to a Terminal Server
  1. Select Start > Programs > Remote Desktop Connection, or run 'CETSC' from the command prompt.
  2. In the Server box, type or select a Terminal Server name or TCP/IP address, or select a server in the drop-down list.
  3. Select Connect.
  4. In the Remote Desktop Connection window, type your user name, password, and domain (if required), and then select OK.

Disconnecting Without Ending a Session
  1. In the Remote Desktop Connection window, select Start > Shutdown.
  2. Select Disconnect > OK.

Note  If you previously disconnected from a Terminal Server without ending the session, the Terminal Server will continue to execute any running processes and Remote Desktop Connection can later reconnect to this same session (if your administrator has configured Remote Desktop Connection to reconnect to disconnected sessions).

Improving display performance
You can decrease the time it takes for the screen to be redrawn.
  1. In the Terminal Server window, select Start > Settings > Control Panel.
  2. Select Display.  
  3. On some newer Terminal Servers, you may also have to select Effects in the Appearance tab.  
  4. Clear Transition effects for menus and tooltips and Smooth edges of screen fonts.
